Rosacea patients are usually nervous when it comes to starting a skin care regimen. That’s because they find their skin to be sensitive, and often experience burning and stinging when they try new products. Because of this, rosacea patients often stop using products on their skin altogether which can actually lead to even more sensitive skin. I call this deconditioned skin – and it’s something that can be improved. There are studies that show rosacea patients do better when they start a simple skin care regimen with cleansing, moisturizing and using sunscreen daily.
There are many great products out there to do this but here are some of my favorites:
We love our ZO Rosacea regimen as it not only decreases inflammation, but helps calm the skin while also re-conditioning it.
> Hydrating Cleanser – this is a cream-based cleanser which gently removes dead skin cells to promote cellular renewal. It contains ingredients such as panthenol and allantoin which are both responsible for adding moisture, as well as being non-irritating and gentle on the skin.
> Calming Toner pH Balancer –This cooling astringent balances the pH of your skin. Gently exfoliating, this toner is great for waking up weak skin. The calming toner has ingredients which are already naturally found in the skin. It also has witch hazel, a non-irritating ingredient that cleanses.
> Rozatrol – a serum which provides hydration, antioxidants and amino acids. This is our go-to recommendation with every rosacea patient. The amino acids normalize sensitive and oily skin while the antioxidants provide protection against inflammation and irritation. Ingredients such as lactose and milk protein help minimize the appearance of redness. You’ll love how this feels on your skin.
> All-Calm – This product is from Colorescience and it’s definitely a favourite. The olive tone decreases the appearance of redness which is why it’s perfect for someone with rosacea. By warming the product in your hand, it spreads so easily over your skin and has a nice calming silky feel once applied. An added bonus? It’s a mineral SPF 50 sunscreen!
In addition to these gentle products, we also carry Glo mineral makeup. We love Glo because they’re free of talc, triple milled, and the fact that it’s mineral-based means it is not going to clog your pores or irritate skin.
